Manassas native Gregory Jerome Stamps, 65, is facing charges in Montgomery County after being flagged by a Bethesda homeowner who caught him on camera red-handed breaking into an area home.

According to a spokesperson from the Montgomery County Department of Police, Stamps was arrested in connection to at least two residential burglaries that were reported earlier this months in the 6000 block of Brookes Lane in Bethesda.

Investigators say that detectives determined that at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the homeowner received a motion sensor alert on his cell phone and observed through his home security cameras as Stamps attempted to break into his unoccupied home, prompting a 911 call.

Upon arrival, officers found a broken window at the home, and tracked down Stamps in the area, who matched a description provided by the homeowner.

Stamps attempted to take off, but was apprehended after a short chase. He was found to be in possession of stolen property and an undisclosed amount of cash.

During his apprehension, police say that another homeowner on Brookes Lane came forward and advised the officers that property and money had just been stolen from their home, which was located inside Stamps' vehicle.

It was later determined that Stamps allegedly forced his way into the second home and made off with cash and property.

Stamps is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit without bond, after being charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, fourth degree burglary, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property.
